GUIDED BY OUR MISSION:
The Museums of Los Gatos are dedicated to enhancing community life through the preservation, exhibition and interpretation of our regional and natural histories, and in increasing community appreciation of the fine arts.

HISTORY:
Los Gatos, 1965 – The hills were already here, dense with oak, pine, spruce and redwood. Wildlife – the deer, raccoon, quail and an occasional bobcat – hardly recognized town limits and felt at home in tree-covered neighborhoods. Narrow streets with wood-framed bungalows and broad avenues generously endowed with Victorian houses properly linked the past with the present.

The schools were good; the library growing. Art, music and drama, if not in residence, at least paid frequent visits. The Los Gatos lifestyle offered just about everything in 1965. Everything but a museum, thought Dr. Ethel Dana. Dana firmly believed that her seven children could not grow up in a community that lacked a museum.

So she did something about it.

Today, thanks to Ethel Dana and a growing number of dedicated volunteers like her, the Museums of Los Gatos are thriving. The Museum is making Los Gatos a better place to grow up in, as well as a better place to live in.

FINDING THE MUSEUMS
The collections are housed in Los Gatos, in two historic buildings—one the remains of a Gold Rush-era flour mill, the other the town’s first firehouse. Both are open Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4pm, are wheelchair accessible and have ample parking. Admission is free, but the suggested $2 per person donation is always welcome.

Exhibits change frequently throughout the year. See the list of current and future events on our web site, call the museums for current information — or better yet — become a member and always know what’s going on.
